Poll: Do You Agree With President Obama's Gun Control Proposals?

President Obama presented several proposals for increased gun control this week.

President Obama made several proposals for increased gun control this week. Among the president's proposals were background checks for all gun sales, even those by private sellers, reinstating and strengtening the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, the New York Times reported. The White House's entire 15-page proposal can be downloaded here. We also attached video of the president discussing the plan to this post. Other aspects of the plan include putting 1,000 more school resource officers and counselors in schools and improving mental health services. "We are going to need to work on making access to mental health care as as easy as access to a gun," Obama said. The proposals come …

RB, excellent point---these gun fans keep bring up totally unrelated facts to try to equal gun deaths---very lame. But even if they had a good point it still doesn't excuse the use of guns as they are in the US today. Why do we even remotely let kids get their hands on guns---maybe cause we have too damn many to begin with??   more ›

Poll: Should Armed Guards Be In Every School?

The NRA reacted to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting by suggesting a variety of causes for mass shootings and suggesting that armed police officers be station in every school.

The NRA called for a surge of gun-carrying "good guys" around U.S. schools Friday in the group's first public statement since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre called for a new kind of American domestic security revolving around armed civilians, arguing that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." A gunman killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conneticut on Dec. 14. Twenty of the victims were children. The shooting has ignited a debate over gun control. Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Sandy Hook Elementary

Westboro Baptist Church came to Skokie in September 2010 to protest on the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah. Now, the group says they will protest outside of Sandy Hook Elementary, claiming, "God Sent the Shooter."

In September of 2010, Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) came to Skokie so they could protest outside the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center on Rosh Hashanah. WBC members, known for demonstrating at military funerals and burning American flags, made their rounds in Skokie, Evanston and the Israeli Consulate in September 2010. Their message that day: "Obey God or Destruction." Fast forward to today, and the WBC is once again trying to practice their 1st Amendment rights.   A day after Friday's shooting in Newtown, CT, where police said 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother and then 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary, Westboro Baptist member Shirley Phelps-Roper posted a message on Twitter that the group would "sing …
