Shooter Opens Fire Outside Milwaukee, 7 Shot

Suspect still at large following Sunday morning shooting at spa near Brookfield Square Mall at Milwaukee suburb.

Brookfield, WI — At least seven people have been shot this morning at the Azana Spa across the street from the Brookfield Square mall. Other reports say as many as a dozen have been shot by the gunman, who is still at large. Brookfield is a suburb of about 38,000 people just west of Milwaukee.  Patch has learned the man wanted by police is apparently the estranged husband of one of the hair stylists at the spa. A spa employee told Patch the hair stylist has been having problems since she left her husband. The man is believed to have slashed car tires in the parking lot of the spa and the business recently put up signs on most of its doors warning employees to keep them locked at all times. The employee who spoke to Patch said the woman's …

Community Mourns ‘Dae Dae’ At Funeral: ‘He Did All the Right Things’

Nearly 2,000 people gathered Saturday in neighboring Evanston for the funeral of 14-year-old ETHS freshman Dajae Coleman, who was shot in what police say was a case of mistaken identity last week.

Family members printed 1,200 programs for the funeral of 14-year-old Dajae Coleman, the Evanston Township High School freshman who was fatally shot in what police said was a case of mistaken identity last week.  Thirty minutes before services began at First Church of God Christian Life Center, every last program was gone, handed out to the nearly 2,000 mourners who gathered for his funeral Saturday, Sept. 29.  Known as “Dae Dae,” the honor student was fired at four times by a 20-year-old Evanston man with gang connections, police said, who was arrested and charged with first degree murder this Friday. Police described the shooting as “a retaliatory act upon an innocent group of teens.” Read more: Dajae Coleman, The Story So Far Based on …

Girlfriend: Skokie Shooter Was 'In Fear Of His Life'

About a month prior to allegedly firing eight shots at a vehicle in downtown Skokie, Alex Soballe was shot at five times outside his apartment in the 4900 block of Louise Avenue in Skokie, according to his girlfriend and police.

The girlfriend of alleged Skokie shooter Alex Soballe said her boyfriend was in "fear of his life" before he fired eight shots at a vehicle in downtown Skokie on June 14. Nathalie Bafia, Soballe's girlfriend of two years, said Soballe was the victim of a shooting May 23 in the 4900 block of Louise Avenue. She said the shooting occurred after Soballe had a run-in with an ex-boyfriend of hers at a Walgreens in downtown Skokie. "They didn't like each other because of prior history," Bafia said. "He was scared - they shot right next to Alex. They shot at him a couple of times. "He was scared for his life and he went out and got a gun," she added.  Bafia lives with her mother and Soballe. She said she was terrified after she heard gunshots …

'Four Counts of Attempted Murder' For Skokie Shooter

A Cook County grand jury has now upgraded charges against Alexander Soballe, the 20-year-old Skokie resident who allegedly fired eight shots at a moving vehicle during rush hour traffic in Skokie.

Alexander Soballe, the 20-year-old who allegedly fired multiple shots at a vehicle in downtown Skokie, is now charged with four counts of attempted murder. Soballe was originally charged with four counts of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm, but a grand jury upgraded those charges on July 2, according to police. All three people inside the vehicle were "known" to Soballe, according to police. It is unclear if he was targetting one or multiple people. The trio came under fire on June 14 while travelling westbound in the 4800 block of Oakton Street when Soballe, who was on foot, fired eight times at the vehicle. He would then flee on foot to his home in the 4900 block of Louise Avenue, police said. Based on a witness description, …

Police Chief, Village Discuss Crime at Skokie Voice Forum

Crime and traffic safety were the big issues discussed at Skokie Voice's open forum last week. According to an unscientific survey released by the group, almost half of the participants said Skokie is less safe than it was 3-5 years ago.

Many Skokie citizens have been alarmed by two very high profile crimes in recent weeks. When shots are fired near a train station or a 9-year-old is killed, tensions are inevitably going to rise. Such emotion served as the backdrop of a meeting on public safety last week. Approximately 150 people attended an open forum hosted by upstart community group Skokie Voice to get an overview on security in the village. Village Manager Al Rigoni, Police Chief Anthony Scarpelli and Trustee Randy Roberts all fielded questions. Not only were the aforementioned incidents on attendee’s minds, an unscientific survey of 293 people generated by Skokie Voice indicated that 47.7 percent of respondents believe the village is less safe than it was 3-5 years …
