Snow Up to 5” Predicted For Skokie Tuesday

Wind gusts could reach as high as 35 mph in Skokie

  Another snowstorm is headed our way Tuesday and could bring a mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow.  The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous winter outlook for much of the Chicago suburbs and predicts between three to five inches of new snow accumulation in Skokie.  "Heavy snow and strong east-northeast winds gusting to 40 miles per hour, especially on the lakefront, will reduce visibility and make travel hazardous," National Weather Service officials said in their winter weather message Sunday night.  The snow is expected to fall Tuesday morning after 10 a.m.  Snow and scattered flurries are expected for the remainder of the week with temperatures hovering around mid-30s during the day.  February to date has been very …

Skokie: 2-6 Inches of Snow Expected, Hazardous Travel and Blizzard Conditions

Winter storm warning in effect, with heaviest snowfall expected between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. today. Commonwealth Edison is expecting outages and travel will be dangerous.

The commute home could be a bear if the Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service remains unchanged. Heavy rain now is expected to change to snow late this afternoon, the National Weather Service predicts, and the heaviest amount of snow could begin around 5 p.m. and last until 9 p.m. Between two and six inches will likely fall, with the majority in the northwest suburbs, including Skokie. Wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour will affect visibility and cause near blizzard conditions, the National Weather Service reports. Meanwhile, Commonwealth Edison is expected outages and significant damage in northern Illinois, and Excelon Corp. is prepared with additional crews and equipment to handle expected outages quickly.  You …

Update: Tollway Has Helped 159 Motorists So Far in Storm

Tollway mobilizing full fleet to prep for storm

Updated Friday 9:10 p.m. The Illinois Tollway has helped 159 motorists so far today, according to a press release. Its trucks will continue to plow overnight to deal with the heavy snowfall. "Once the main roadways are clear, work will begin to remove remaining snow from roadway shoulders, ramps and toll plazas across the 286-mile system," the release said. Updated Friday 3:35 p.m. The Tollway has helped 28 motorists so far in today's storm, according to a press release. Employees have changed tires and batteries, given out fuel and called for tow trucks.
