About a month prior to allegedly firing eight shots at a vehicle in downtown Skokie, Alex Soballe was shot at five times outside his apartment in the 4900 block of Louise Avenue in Skokie, according to his girlfriend and police.
The girlfriend of alleged Skokie shooter Alex Soballe said her boyfriend was in "fear of his life" before he fired eight shots at a vehicle in downtown Skokie on June 14. Nathalie Bafia, Soballe's girlfriend of two years, said Soballe was the victim of a shooting May 23 in the 4900 block of Louise Avenue. She said the shooting occurred after Soballe had a run-in with an ex-boyfriend of hers at a Walgreens in downtown Skokie. "They didn't like each other because of prior history," Bafia said. "He was scared - they shot right next to Alex. They shot at him a couple of times. "He was scared for his life and he went out and got a gun," she added. Bafia lives with her mother and Soballe. A Cook County grand jury has now upgraded charges against Alexander Soballe, the 20-year-old Skokie resident who allegedly fired eight shots at a moving vehicle during rush hour traffic in Skokie.
Alexander Soballe, the 20-year-old who allegedly fired multiple shots at a vehicle in downtown Skokie, is now charged with four counts of attempted murder. Soballe was originally charged with four counts of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm, but a grand jury upgraded those charges on July 2, according to police. All three people inside the vehicle were "known" to Soballe, according to police. It is unclear if he was targetting one or multiple people. The trio came under fire on June 14 while travelling westbound in the 4800 block of Oakton Street when Soballe, who was on foot, fired eight times at the vehicle. Crime and traffic safety were the big issues discussed at Skokie Voice's open forum last week. According to an unscientific survey released by the group, almost half of the participants said Skokie is less safe than it was 3-5 years ago.
Many Skokie citizens have been alarmed by two very high profile crimes in recent weeks. When shots are fired near a train station or a 9-year-old is killed, tensions are inevitably going to rise. Such emotion served as the backdrop of a meeting on public safety last week. Approximately 150 people attended an open forum hosted by upstart community group Skokie Voice to get an overview on security in the village. Village Manager Al Rigoni, Police Chief Anthony Scarpelli and Trustee Randy Roberts all fielded questions. Not only were the aforementioned incidents on attendee’s minds, an unscientific survey of 293 people generated by Skokie Voice indicated that 47.7 percent of respondents believe the village is less safe than it was 3-5 years …

Alexander Soballe, the 20-year-old who allegedly fired eight shots at a vehicle during rush hour traffic near Oakton Street and Skokie Boulevard, was charged with four counts of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm on Saturday. The driver and passenger inside the vehicle escaped the incident without injury. Police said the shooting was a result of a prior domestic dispute between both parties. Officers located Soballe shortly after the incident in his home in the 4900 block of Louise Avenue, just a few blocks from the shooting. In 2009, when Soballe was 17, he attended the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot in West Point, Ky. Almost a dozen squad cars responded to a shooting near the new CTA Oakton Stop in downtown Skokie. A picture shows about eight shots were fired at the scene. Police said there were no injuries.

John Moersfelder. Witnesses told police that a male subject, standing on the north sidewalk of Oakton Street, displayed a semi automatic pistol and fired multiple times in the direction of a vehicle traveling westbound in the curb lane, police said. The offender then fled on foot from the scene. The driver would ultimately stop a short distance from the initial shooting and both occupants were said to be uninjured, according to police.
