The Niles North Theater Department opens the 2012-13 season with the Director’s Circle production of “Pageant Play,” by Matthew Wilkas and Mark Setlock. The production's story examines the surreal world of child beauty pageants; from the coaching sessions to the questionable (and hilarious) behavior from parents. Performances will be held at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 25 in the Drama Performance Center at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler Ave. Tickets are $10. Ten-minutes productions count as final exams for directing class.
Fourteen students get to sit in the director's chair for the first time this weekend as Niles West High School presents a whirlwind festival of short plays. Playwrights will get a crack at exercising their creativity too, as five of the plays are original works by Niles West student and alumni. The fledging directors will preside over seven of the brief works on Friday and another seven on Saturday. Presented in the Black Box Theater at the school, 5701 W. Oakton, Skokie, they'll feature 34 actors. The directors are students in teacher Andy Sinclair’s directing class and have spent the semester preparing for these public performances.
