Shopping spree w/ stolen card A woman who reported her wallet stolen on Dec. 22 realized that more than $4,000 was charged to her account at various retail outlets, including Walmart, Kmart and a nearby gas station, police said. According to the report, the woman was dinning at Panera Bread, 5202 Old Orchard Road, prior to the theft. She added that her purse was hanging on the back of her chair while eating. Parking rage Police responded to a criminal damage complaint outside Nordstrom in Old Orchard Mall on Christmas Eve. According to the report, the victim’s passenger and driver’s side door were kicked in. Coffee bandit gets away Police responded to a theft at Village Market Place in the 4000 block of Dempster Street on Oct. 31. According to the report, a white male in his 20s selected 10 or 11 bags of Tasters Choice Coffee and fled the store without paying. The owner of the business reported that a similar theft occurred several days earlier. Police are reviewing surveillance footage, but no arrests have been made. Harassing calls A woman came into the Skokie police station to report several harassing phone calls she received on Nov. 3. According to the report, a person called the victim numerous times, stating he was going to “kill and rape” the woman. The victim told police she has no idea who the person is. Drug driving Vladimir B. Kostov, 28, of the 800 block of Margret Avenue in Des Plaines, was charged with driving on a suspended license, among other charges, on Oct. 22. According to the report, Kostov was stopped in the 4000 block of Oakton Street for a traffic violation. Police soon learned that his license was suspended and conducted a search in his vehicle. Officers found about a half a gram of cocaine and half a gram of marijuana inside his vehicle, the report said. Kostov admitted to police that the narcotics were his and that he had consumed both earlier in the day. His court date is Nov. 1. Teen-eggers busted Police responded to a compliant about several teenagers throwing eggs at parked cars in Village Crossing on Oct. 22. According to the report, police caught up to the four juveniles before they left the scene. When police asked the teens if they knew why they were stopped they replied: “Because we were throwing eggs at cars.” Officers soon learned their protein-slinging suspects were throwing eggs as a form of retaliation from an incident prior to the altercation, according to the report. Another sex offense Several patrons dinning at Curragh Irish Pub, 8266 Lincoln Ave., reported that a man fully exposed himself after approaching their table on Oct. 12. According to the report, the man fled the scene in an unknown direction. The suspect was described as a white male, in his 40s with blonde hair. No items inside the vehicle were reported missing. Taxi driver defends turf Police responded to an alleged battery incident outside of Macy’s in Westfield Old Orchard Mall on Aug. 11. According to the report, Alex Kitaychik, 54, of the 9000 block of LaCrosse Avenue, was banned from the mall after he threatened and grabbed another taxi driver. Kitaychik told police he was upset at the other taxi driver because his suspected competitor didn’t have a permit to drive customers in the Skokie area. The other cabbie told police he was not transporting passengers but was at the mall to shop. In the end, police did not charge Kitaychik but told him he could not come to the mall anymore. Regarding the Taster's Choice bandit at Village Market Place on Dempster Street in Skokie: I was at Walgreens at Oakton & Milwaukee two weeks ago and all of the Taster's Choice coffee was under lock & key because someone keeps shoplifting it from their store shelves. Perhaps Skokie Police & Niles Police should compare surveillance footage.   more ›
