UPDATE: See Who Won Patch's Athlete of the Week

See who won the Athlete of the Week this time around.

With six votes in the comments section, New Trier's Maddie Mulford won Athlete of the Week. Mulford scored the only goal in New Trier’s 1-0 victory over Jacobs in the Sweet 16 of the Pepsi Showdown on Thursday. Mulford received a pass from Rachel Shellenback and slipped it past the keeper off the right post for the game-winner early in the second half. HONORABLE MENTION April Cronin, junior, girls soccer, Glenbrook South – Cronin scored two of Glenbrook South’s four goals in a 4-0 victory over Oswego in the Pepsi Showdown. The Titans haven’t had much offense this season, but moved to 5-3-4 on the season with the win. Mike Virgilio, junior, baseball, Maine South – Virgilio threw a complete game for Maine South in the Hawks’ 8-2 victory over…

Nominees for Athlete of the Week are Deerfield's Artie Bess, New Trier's Elana Benishay, Niles North's Mariyah Henley, Glenbrook North's Andrew McAuliffe and Loyola's Lauren Kriz.

More than 1,600 votes were cast in last week's competition and Deerfield's Christine Stitcher was named Patch Athlete of the Week.  The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Feb. 13 - Feb. 19: Artie Bess, senior, wrestling, Deerfield – Bess took third place in the 220-pound division at the Class 3A wrestling state championships last weekend. Bess beat Mt. Carmel junior David Denne 3-1 in the third-place match and finished the season with a record of 40-2. Lauren Kriz, senior, girl’s basketball, Loyola Academy – Kriz tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Ramblers’ 46-31 win over Evanston in the Class 4A Evanston Regional finals. The Ramblers moved to 23-7 on the season and defeated Evanston for the second time this season. …

Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

The nominees for Athlete of the Week: Glenbrook North's Jim McPike, Niles West's Dashae Shumate, Maine West's Brittany Collins, New Trier's Sam Stoddart and Maine South's Michael Zadlo.

More than 71,000 votes were cast in last week's contest and Niles West's Ryan Miller was voted Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 23 - Jan. 29: Jim McPike, senior, wrestling, Glenbrook North – McPike took the conference championship in the 170-pound division. The senior from Glenbrook North pinned New Trier’s Luke Hidder in the second period of the conference finals to claim the championship. The win moved McPike to 19-5 on the year. Dashae Shumate, sophomore, girls basketball, Niles West – Shumate made the game-winning layup for Niles West against Maine South last week. Her two points as time expired gave the Wolves a 42-41 win. Shumate had 12 points in the victory and helped Niles West move into first …

The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week: New Trier's Max Grodecki, Oak Park-River Forest's Hailey Hoye, Highland Park's Jake Norcia, Glenbrook South's Molly McDonagh, Maine West's Michelle Madalinski.

More than 15,000 votes were counted last week and Deerfield's Alex Sacks was proclaimed this week's Athlete of the Week. The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 9 - Jan. 15: Michelle Madalinski, senior, girls gymnastics, Maine West – At the Niles North Viking Invitational, Madalinski took first in the uneven bars with a score of 9.35. The senior also took second in balance beam (9.4) to Hersey’s Hannah Bovino. Jake Norcia, senior, boys basketball, Highland Park – Norcia hit one of the biggest shots of his career when he nailed a half-court buzzer-beater to give the Warriors a 57-54 win at Elk Grove. More than 500,000 votes were counted last week to make Highland Park's Leeny Bloom this week's Patch Athlete of the Week. The following nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Dec. 26 - Jan. 1, are: Malachi Nix, junior, basketball guard, Niles North – Nix had 13 points in the first quarter and 23 for the game in Niles North’s 62-48 win over Vernon Hills in the Wheeling Hardwood Classic consolation game. The Vikings are now 8-5 on the season as they head into CSL North play. Nina Duric, senior, basketball, Maine South – Duric led the Hawks’ balanced scoring attack with 14 points and nine rebounds in Maine South’s 55-43 win over Champaign Centennial to claim the State Farm Holiday Classic title. More than 12,000 votes were cast last week to make Loyola's Michelle Ricolcol our Patch Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Dec. 19- Dec. 25: Lenny Bloom, senior, wrestling, Deerfield – Bloom remained undefeated on the season with three more victories in Deerfield’s recent quad meet against Huntley, Johnsburg and Lake Zurich. The 145-pound senior is looking to get back to the state championships in his final season. Jack Conner, senior, wrestling, New Trier – Conner won the 152 (lb.) title in the 27-team Hinsdale Central tournament. Conner went into the tournament as the No. 3 seed, but had three pins and a decision on his way to the title. It’s the first ever individual title for a New Trier wrestler in the …

UPDATE: See Who Won Patch's Athlete of the Week

Officially our closest contest yet. See who came out on top and won Athlete of the Week!

More than 900 votes were cast, but in the end Evanston’s Josh Irving landed this week’s Athlete of the Week. Irving received 330 votes, or 36 percent. Irving scored a game-high 20 points in Evanston’s 77-24 win against Maine East on Nov. 29. The 5-foot-10 senior drained three three-pointers as the Wildkits shot 10-for-21 from beyond the arc. The win continued Evanston’s undefeated start to the season as the Wildkits improved to 6-0.   This week’s contest was also our closest one yet, with Skokie’s Mariyah Henley coming in second place, capturing 284 votes or 31 percent. Athlete of the Week for Nov. 7 - Nov. 13: Alli Mack ran away with North Shore's Patch Athlete of the Week. More than 900 readers voted last week, but the senior karate champion and field hockey captain from Glenbrook South received more than 550 votes, capturing about 62 percent of the total. (See results here) The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Nov. 7 - Nov. 13, were: Alli Mack, senior, field hockey and karate, Glenbrook South – Mack recently took third place at the World Shotokan Karate Championships back in September. She is a nine-time state champion in karate and has three bronze and three silver medals from the Junior Olympics.
