Chicagoland Braces For Severe Weather

Tornado warning is in effect with winds hitting 80 mph in Northbrook.

It's raining cats, dogs, cows and even mules. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado warning in effect for Northern Cook County beginning at 8:38 p.m. Tuesday June 21. According to the NWS, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing tornadic activity is moving towards the area at 50 miles per hour. The NWS predicts the storm will approach Northbrook, Glenview and Northfield by 9 p.m. It has already been reported that winds of 80 mph have already hit Northbrook. Meanwhile, WBBM News Radio reported that a tree 12 inches in diameter  collapsed just outside Skokie's Village Hall. Up to 5 Inches of Snow Predicted; Winter Weather Advisory in Effect

More snow is coming to Skokie overnight.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for Cook County in effect through 9 a.m. Friday morning. Between 3 and 5 inches of snow is expected to begin falling this evening, according to the NWS. The weather may begin as a mix of rain, snow and sleet before transitioning completely to snow. Because the snow is predicted to fall at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour, the NWS cautions drivers that roads may quickly become treacherous if plows cannot keep up. The heaviest amounts of snow are expected close to midnight. The NWS also cautions drivers that winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour may limit visibility.
