Skokie producer and Chicago Blues Hall of Famer Lynn Orman Weiss is teaming up with Frank Russell in a tribute to Miles Davis set for this Saturday.
Skokie’s Lynn Orman Weiss of Orman Music Group will present the Frank Russell Band on Saturday, April 27 at Chicago’s The Mayne Stage, 1328 Morse Ave., in Chicago at 8 p.m. “Miles Davis is one of my biggest influences as a musician,” Russell said. “To get the blessing and support from the Miles Davis family for this concert, there are no words … but that I am blessed and thankful.” Russell will be performing with special guests Dede Sampaio, a Miles Davis band percussionist, Dee Alexander and trumpeter Corey Wilkes will pay homage to the jazz master in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Our second biggest story of the year had to do with an iconic purple building in Lincolnwood and what it looked like inside.
Perhaps the most recognizable building in Lincolnwood is also the village's biggest headache. The infamous Purple Hotel can be remembered for a variety of historical events, but before we get to any of that, we wanted to share why this was the second most popular story on Skokie Patch for 2012. What does the Purple Hotel look like inside today? That question was answered as Skokie Patch featured 41 pictures from the building's interior. Some were just plain eerie. The Purple Hotel in Lincolnwood was purchased during an auction at the Westin Hotel in Chicago on Friday. The winning bidders are based out of Skokie and paid $8.3 million for the 8.5-acre property.
The 'purple' eyesore at 4500 Touhy Ave. has a new owner that has plans to revive the hotel back to its glory days. As of Friday, the Purple Hotel and surrounding property now belong to North Capital Group and Weiss Properties Inc., both of Skokie. The developers purchased the 8.5-acre property for $8.3 million during an auction at the Westin Hotel in Chicago last week. The developers have said in the past that they want to turn the property into a mixed-use development, which would include commercial shopping, a banquet hall and possible gut rehab for the interior of the hotel. Weiss Properties is working with architect Jackie Koo. The Lincolnwood Review reported that Koo’s most popular and recognizable design is the Wit Hotel in Chicago…
