ReplyThey said no to a Target years ago, which wou, shave been the anchor to bring other businesses to the area. There may be parking, but it's invisible. Park Ridge has a booming downtown with signed parking easy to find. Great to use TIF money to refresh the downtown...seems like icing on crap...to little way too late.

ReplyPretty clear to me that violent crime is up. If people look at the real statistics (thanks Mel) they may be more apt to vote a few of the "status quo" trustees out of office and bring in the new blood, so needed at village.
Trustee Roberts points to inexperience of the independents running for office. If you read their bio's you'll quickly see great experience, and the welcome change we need at village Hall.
I've lived here for 37 years and have no plans to move. My expectation for village trustees is that we get crime under control. -

ReplyPatty is correct, the world has changed. But the current administration is so busy with a dead downtown (I understand it's TIF money), speed limits, and other items....#1 when the signs went up on Main Street and Oakton there should have been red flags posted with them to alert traffic. Traffic has not slowed down nor is the new limit being enforce. Where are the marked crossings by schools, with signs?
#2 Yes, it's a different world and due to current Trustees we have not recognized that fact. Now is the time to vote for CHANGE. Skokie Voice has done a great job in the community. NOW is the time to elect non-Caucus "voices" to our village hall...no more rubber stamping of the things that only concern the Trustees...time for the citizens to have a VOICE. Vote Early ...I've done it so can you!!! -

ReplyProud to have voted for 3 Independent candidates today, especially Lisa Lipin. Lisa is a tremendous asset to this village and a strong advocate for change. Maybe we can't vote the whole Caucus party out but can certainly add some new voices to our group of Trustee leaders....Go Lisa Go!!!

ReplyAs a community I think we are tired of the "yes" men/women trustees. To Lorel's point there are many reasons to live here but there has been blind eye to the changing demographic and the REAL rise in crime. We need independents trustees who are not bound to the code of silence. We need real economic development, not just street-scaping. I salute the work done by Skokie Voice and look forward to big changes at village hall after the election...VOTE INDEPENDENT!!!

What lies ahead for us...I don't care how much you gloss up the downtown and pretend things are great...I don't feel safe here anymore. The new CTA station ins a vehicle to allow criminals to enter and leave the community at will...not good. The people who built this town in post WW2 America though they were building a stepping stone future for GI's and young families with low cost multi family housing...Don't think this is the legacy they in visioned. Everyone has the right to housing, but at what cost. Sick of people living on the dole...
