ReplyWhat are the statistics on crimes of violence in Skokie? By violence I would include not only assault and battery, rape and murder, but any crime of intimidation, home invasion, or threats to well being in general.
What percentage of these crimes have been solved. Are there any patterns found among the perpetrators of these crimes: economic class; race; ethnicity; etc.? Are the offenders residents of Skokie?
What changes in police enforcement have been made to address this problem?
As a senior Skokie resident. I'm very concerned.

ReplyOwners who consistently leave their dogs off leash need to be warned and fined, and eventually need to lose ownership of their dogs. As for frequency of biting for pit bulls, it needs to be considered what relative damage is done when they do bite. The risk may be similar for most breeds, but the stakes are often higher with some. ReplyThe main problems with pit bulls, as I see it, is not the owner, nor the training or lack there of, but the potential for damage from the pit bull bite. If they were to bite no more often than other breeds, or even less often, the stakes are so high that the risk is unreasonable. So, I think they should no longer be bred: all existing pit bulls should be neutered, breeding them should be outlawed, and those having a history of aggressive behavior should be euthanized. I FEEL violent crime is up in Skokie. In the thirty years I've lived here I've noticed the Skokie crime reports looking a little more like our neighbor's, Evanston, police reports. There used to be quite a contrast: Evanston reported gang recruitment, muggings, guns in school, even rapes and murders, while we reported, police officer leaves donut shop without paying; woman sets off store security alarm when sales clerk forgets to remove security tag; man seen racing down street in pursuit of wind blown yarmulke. I use, "FEEL" because I don't have the official data I thank Mr. Weintraub for supplying them. I question the motives of the Village Officials in this regard.
