Jay - There are many Skokie residents who have been asking how to fix the problem for several years. Skokie Voice sponsored a Townhall Meeting with the Village Officials who were very resistent to even having a Townhall Meeting. Over 500 people attended and spoke about the increased crime and types of crime in Skokie. There were 3 independent candidates who ran for Village Trustee this year for the first time in decades. Just two examples of many examples how people are getting involved and trying to be part of the solution, but there is resistants from the Village. Hiring more Police Officers was one recommendation, a revised rental ordinance is in the works (but stalled, I believe). There is only so much people can do before they run out of steam and it's not really our job to be police. When you have information coming out of the Village that keeps saying crime is down to make themselves look good, where do you go from there? . The only thing people haven't done is picket Village Hall or the Police Station to get more outside attention to the problem of serous crime in this Village. Is that a solution? I don''t know. Your suggestions welcome.

Exactly Jerry! Where is the update! We don't know if anyone has been arrested and there is a gunman on the loose. Don't the citizens have a right to know? Does anyone have any information? Please post the information!

You got it Omar! And I'm sure you are thrilled with the 8.9 million the Village is spending on the soon to be Downtown cash cow. I guess you won't mind when a bullet comes through your window either. I'm also guessing you believe all the bs statistics that come out of the Police Department and Village on crime. Have a great evening.

ReplySkokie residents want to hear from not only the Police Chief, but also the Mayor and Village Manager to let us know what measures will be taken to prevent this in the future. Unless this is a random shooting by a mentally ill person, this shooting points to gang related. The informed all know that there are gangs in Skokie that came from Evanston, who are ruining our Skokie community. Is this kind of activity going on at Northbrook Court, Lincolnwood Town, Golf Mill, etc? I don't think so.

ReplyTheives like the above should pay and pay dearly for these crimes. I hope they all go to prison. Hopefully, all the false billing money is recovered. This makes it bad for people who really need health treatments. Shameful!

Thank you for creating this map, but the point of the map is to pinpoint all crime. Having separate maps defeats the purpose. If the map looks too busy with all crime pinpointed then so be it. Having color coded pins will distinguish each crime category. Thanks again for doing this!

ReplyWith the warmer weather the criminals are going to start hanging out and doing stupid things like the above. How about the mobile police station that is being proposed start parking in these high crime areas. I'm proposing more than one mobile police station!

The Skokie Patch has posted the update on the shooting incident. The shooter is a 17 year old kids from Evanston, who has been bailed out of jail and is under house arrest. Don't know if the victim was from Skokie or Evanston. He is still in the hospital. There is rumor that some high school kids from NN were talking about something that might happen at the carnival. Does anyone know anything about this rumor? Talk to your kids.
