Monday Blotter: Police Find Ditched Handgun

Stolen auto

A 2012 Dodge Charger was reported stolen as it sat parked in the 4900 block of Fargo Avenue on Feb. 6.

Motor offense

George Zaharopoulos, 19, of the 8500 block of Crawford Avenue, was charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer on Jan. 7. Zaharopoulos was stopped for speeding in the 5000 block of Touhy Avenue. It took police some time for Zaharopoulos to stop his vehicle, the report said.

Martial arts theft

An owner of a martial arts facility in Skokie caught his employee stealing close to $4,000 from his business on Feb. 8. According to the report, the suspect agreed to pay his boss back.

Police find ditched handgun

Police responded to the 8200 block of Central Park regarding a suspicious package on Feb. 6. According to the report, a homeowner was smoking a cigarette when he noticed a backpack lying in the bushes. The man called police, who opened the backpack and found a semi-automatic 9mm Ruger pistol.

Police were able to run the serial number on the handgun and it came back to a Skokie residence. Police are investigating.
